On December 7, 2019, friends and strangers alike gathered in a private loft, located in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The goal? To make the best of winter by celebrating the arts.
Winter in New York. The temperature finally matches the stereotypical (though not mandatory) New York attitude: icy, and with winds whipping indiscriminately, we'd pretty much always be inside were it not for the trees in the parks dusted with snow and the smell of roasted nuts on the sidewalk. (You know the kind, that smell that could bring a smile to even those at risk of anaphylaxis.) Since the frigidity rarely lets up, some of the best destinations in the city are found inside warm and welcoming spaces. Who doesn't love a clandestine spot? ..the kind where guests can be authentic and vibe in a space full of creative energy.
The idea of winter can illicit an array of sentiment, from pure joy and elation, to a driving desire to curl up under blankets for the next 4 months. Attendees were pleased to discover that this event brought the former, along with the comfort and warmth of a big-ole weighted blanket.
Curated by Featured Artist Bianka Alaina, along with Kwassin, The Winter Loft Session proved that the dip in thermal energy is not enough to stop the passion and creativity that thrives in the city that doesn't sleep. A look around the room and at any point in time you could see people dancing, relaxing, enjoying drinks, painting, and making new connections left and right. |
Exhibited works included a mural sized piece titled "Flux" (by Blakelee Harmon) as the backdrop to the musical stage area, satirical illustrations, commentary on urban living, and even live art by Brian Tan that became an interactive piece that was open for guests to contribute to (shown in the photo above). A truly collaborative effort.

As guests eagerly awaited the live performances, you could feel the excitement in the air. The musical acts brought a variety of genres to the table, with acoustic jams, pop-driven electronic production, hip-hop, powerhouse vocals, and some provocative moves.
